Colophon
“Colophon” comes from the Greek “κολοφων,” meaning ‘a summit,’ ‘top,’ ‘finishing.’ It is a description of the details and methods behind a publication, often found on the last few pages of a book… or in the footer of a website, like this one.
Identity
The logo was created by Jason Pickleman at jnl graphic design, a studio that specializes in the creation of graphic ephemera of unique cultural significance. The website header was modeled after Pickleman’s printed collateral for this project. The typefaces include Frutiger, Bauer Bodoni, and Leviathan.
Typography
The website headers are set in Georgia, Arial narrow, and Arial Black — web safe fonts that mimic the typographic treatments in the logo. The website body copy was set in Verdana, a web safe typeface designed for legibility at small point sizes. Special consideration was given to ensure this site is accessible: all non-imaged copy can be resized according to users’ needs, even on IE 6.
Site Content
Nathan Leo Braulick of Burns Sowder Arts Advisory handled image research, copy writing, and editing for the site.
