Robert Enright, a writer and lecturer who specializes in writing about art and culture, has over 25 years experience as a cultural journalist in print, radio and television. For that entire period, he has been associated with the arts magazine, Border Crossings, where he is now the film critic and Senior Contributing Editor. Since 2004 Enright has been the University Research Professor in Art Criticism in the Graduate Program at the University of Guelph.

Enright has published more than one hundred interviews with leading Canadian, American and European artists. In 2000, along with Arthur Danto and Steve Martin, he contributed to a monograph on the American painter, Eric Fischl for the Monacelli Press (New York). An expanded second edition of this monograph will be published in the fall of this year. Peregrinations, a collection of thirty-two of his interviews from Border Crossings, was released in 1997. Recent interviews in Border Crossings have included Malcolm Morley, Cecily Brown, Peter Doig, Evan Penny, Susan Rothenberg and Laura Letinsky.

Enright has contributed introductions, essays and interviews to dozens of books and exhibition catalogs internationally, and has written for a wide range of magazines, including ArtReview (London), Contemporary (London), ARTnews (New York) and Modern Painters (London). He also writes frequently for the Globe & Mail, Canada’s national newspaper, to which he has contributed over 100 reviews and features. Enright is the host of Artists Talk, a combined lecture and public interview event co-sponsored by the Perimeter Institute and the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery.

In November 2006 Enright was given the Art Award of Distinction by the National Council of Arts Administrators (an affiliated society of the College Art Association), and in June 2007 he will be awarded a Gold Medal for his contribution to the arts by the R.C.A. (the Royal Canadian Academy). In 2005 Enright was made a Member of The Order of Canada, the highest civilian honor awarded to Canadian citizens.
